The LTTE considered the Tamil areas of northern and eastern Sri Lanka to constitute their own independent State (Tamil Eelam) and to this end they established a small Navy capability (here seen flying the LTTE Tiger flag). The LTTE "Sea Tigers" were ruthless and effective against the much bigger, better equipped Sri Lanka Navy, through the frequent use of suicide cadres, inflicting substantial losses on the SL Navy.

LATIN AMERICA

OAM Principal escorted an Australian mining and investment management team in Cusco, central Peru, to assess investment opportunities in southern Peru and the high Andes region.

Venezuela, Caracas, The "Miraflores" Presidential Palace. The OAM Principal provided close security to Saudi Arabia's Sheikh AZ YAMANI, during the Sheikh's visit. Travel commenced in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Miami Florida, then onwards to Caracas.

OAM Principal escorted an Australian mining investment group to a high-Andes project site from Cusco town. Helicopters saved substantial time and minimised the risk of road travel through the Andes

The OAM Principal in Moscow attending meetings with Gazprom and Lukoil Security Managers to discuss security support to prospective Russian investment in southern Iraq oil concessions

The OAM Principal in Tehran supported an Australian mining and investment group during discussions with Iranian Government. The task included assisting seismic survey projects, and deploying a former Australian Army engineer to oversee mine clearing and unexploded ordnance clearance activities along the Iran-Iraq border.

In Moscow, the OAM Principal discussed strategic and tactical security services in Iraq on behalf of Gazprom and Lukoil oil and gas entities, both of which were seeking to invest in major oilfields in southern Iraq
