OAM Projects

CASE STUDIES

A sample reflecting the diversity of project management undertaking by the OAM Principal

INDOCHINA - MYANMAR

The OAM Principal implemented corporate policy to expand security operations from Africa and SE Asia into the Indochina Peninsula region. Consultations were held with high level regional officials to determine the scope of opportunity, ahead of meetings with major multinational management teams seeking to invest substantial funds into the region. Consultations proved effective, leading to expansion of OAM regional operations and continuing strategic advisory support to major international investor groups.

MANDALAY, MYANMAR (BURMA)

CENTRAL AFRICA - GABON

An Australian mining company with "greenfield" iron ore mining resources in SE Gabon required a strategic security review of risk ahead of deployment of technical staff (engineering, geological and drilling personnel). The OAM Principal deployed to Gabon, consulted with national security officials (gendarmerie, police and military) in the capital, Libreville, ahead of travelling to the intended site of the project camp, where further discussions were held with provincial security authorities to determine current security situation. OAM's strategic audit of the region was submitted to the client, allowing deployments to take place as scheduled.

GABON-CONGO (BRAZZAVILLE) BORDER REGION

SOUTH ASIA - SRI LANKA

A major Australian mineral sands producer retained the OAM Principal to undertake a strategic assessment of potential threats against personnel, assets and general operations during the then-ongoing civil war that at the time was raging throughout the country, threatening infrastructure and damaging major investor confidence. The OAM Principal engaged with senior national intelligence, security and defence officials to determine the status of the civil conflict and the potential risk to future investment, before submitting an in-depth security assessment of the country and the investment climate, to the satisfaction of the client.

SRI LANKA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT ATTACK

WEST AFRICA - GUINEA

A major Australian Engineering client was supporting Rio Tinto operations at Simandou in the remote Nzerekore Region, S-E Guinea, close to the border with Liberia, through country-wide civil agitation following the death of the former President and the subsequent coup d’état by a group of young military officers. The client had concerns about existing corporate emergency evacuation planning and requested OAM analysis of site evacuation methodology and procedures, recommendations on modification/update if required, in addition to developing an updated site security movement plan and improving general security procedures. At the strategic level, the client required the OAM Principal to brief the project management team and Corporate management on the current security and political situation in country.
